Ustad Mohammad Hussain Sarahang (1924-1983) is a renowned Tajik musician of Afghanistan and famous in all over India, Pakistan and Iran. He was born in Kharabat, an area in the old city of Kabul. He learned the basics of music from his father Ustad Ghulam Hussain, a well-known musician.
Ustad Sarahang is one of the greatest Masters of Eastern Classical Music, a professional musician in North Indian Classical Music (see lndo-Persian culture). He performed various genres of music: khayal, thumri, tarana, ghazal and others. He earned the following titles and degrees from various Music Schools of India. Degrees of Master, Doctors and Professor of Music from Klakandra School of Music in Calcutta, India • Title of "Koh-e Beland" (High Mountain of Music) from Chandigar School of Music • Title of "Sar Taj-e Musigee" (Top Crown of Music) from Central School of Music in Allahabad, India • Title Baba-e-Musiqee (The Father of Music) in his final concert in New Delhi, • Title of "Sher-e Musigee" (Lion of Music) in his last performance in Allahabad in 1982.
