Smt. Roshanara Begum stands out among the galary of disciples stalwart Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, the founder of the Kirana Gharana. Roshanara was the daughter of Ustad Abdul Hague and Chandabai. She had a rare privilege of receiving direct training from Ustad Abdul Karim Khan Khan from an early age, as her father's younger brother. The two brothers used to sing together in the Baroda Palace till 1906 - 1907. Roshanara begum inbibed the typical Kirana Gayaki characterized by extremely tuneful rendition of - Swar in the Dhrupadi style. Her real forte was her highspeed taans and application of powerful gamak.
