chords is today by far the best known and most popular vocalist all over India.
His virtuosity is limitless. Every fresh disc that he cuts has something new
and brilliant to offer. His unbelievable breath control and amazing range are
highlighted through a spectacular display of his Taans. His meticulous
renderings of Ragas Pooriya and Durga on this record will regale discerning

 Sine One – Pooriya

 Pooriya is an early evening Raga. It employs the
second note Rishab in Komal (flat) from and completely omits the fifth note –
Pancham – from exposition. The Vilambit composition in Ek Taal affords the
maestro and opportunity to give a very leisurely and dignified treatment to the
Raga. Drut composition is in Teen Taal (16 beats). The fast taans, at an almost
unbelievable speed through a span of three octaves, leave the listeners
spellbound.

 Side Two – Durga

 Like all other things, even the Ragas have their
heydays. Some years ago, Durga was so very popular with performing artistes and
listeners that there was hardly a concert which did not feature this raga.
However, as new ragas were evolved, Durga receded into the background. The
Vilambit Khayal ‘Too Rasa Kan Re’ will, therefore, be listened to with
nostalgia by connoisseurs. The drut composition ‘Chaur Sugara’ is also equally
known and popular. Bhimsen Joshi’s spectacular display of beautifully conceived
and superbly executed taans give the listeners a full measure of joy and
satisfaction.
