This record by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan contains renderings of some of the most enchanting Thumris by the master.

 The Thumri is a light classical mode which was evolved during the decline of the Moghul rule in India towards the latter half of the last century and attained immense popularity because of its captivating style of rendering. The themes are usually of frivolous type and cover a wide variety of moods ranging from the romantic to the frolicsome and from the pathetic to the oy which a singer accentuates according to the aesthetics he or she has developed. The compositions in Thumri are so modelled that they can be best interpreted by the rhythmic movements of the eyes, eyebrows, hands and necks of the girls for whom It was primarily evolved. Male singers gifted with melodious and flexible voices always aspired to render these romantic pieces in a soulful and expressive style. 

 This disc contains lilting Thumris all sung by Maestro Bade Bhulam Ali Khan. He has put over every composition in such an exquisitely sweet and arresting manner that listeners are delightfully surprised at his exceptionally beautiful way of exposition and it amply demonstrates what a male singer of his calibre and imagination can achieve in a sphere which is normally an exclusive preserve of the fairer se.

 Bade Ghulam Ali Khan belongs to Patiala Gharana (School) and has been a front-ranker amongst the vocalists for well over three decades. This and the other LP discs of performances by this distinguished artiste are all the more valuable, now because the maestro has had an attack of paralytic stroke four years ago and will not be able to perform any longer with the same vigour, enchantment and style in which the pieces on this disc are executed.
