Quiet and gentle by nature, his exposition of highbrow classical items is always smooth and soothing. Devoid of any superfluous frills and gimmicks, they are models of ideal, chaste renderings, and his sweet, melodious tone makes them all the more enjoyable. With every fresh disc (this is his 3rd L.P), he succeeds in winning better clientele and is spreading his popularity far and wide.

SIDE ONE

Raga Bilaskhani Todi

Credit for evolving this sub-melody is given to Bilaskhan, the talented son of the most illustrious Miyan Tansen. Predominantly sublime in appeal, it remains the tinge of pathos inherent in the main Raga. The composition in Vilambit is by Maharana Stree Jaywant Singhji – an ex-member of the princely order and is confined to Ektaal (12 beats). It is an invocation to Goddess, Kameshwari and Pandit Jasraj uses the urge and appeal in the notes of this Raga to the fullest advantage and this leaves the listeners in a very pious and prayerful mood. The concluding piece in Drut is in Teen Taal (16 beats) and serves as a fitting finale to the exposition.

SIDE TWO

Raga Gorakh Kalyan

This is a very pleasing melody of early night period. Rarely heard these days, this Raga has a very popular appeal. Pandit Jasraj in a leisurely but ingenious style lays before the listeners, vividly, a very enchanting euphonious picture of this raga. The rhythm employed for the Vilambit is Ektaal (12 beats) and that for the Drut is Teentaal (16 beats).
