Vijay Raghav Rao, the eminent classical flutist, composer, conductor, choreographer and poet, is, at present the Director of Music at the Films Division. His work has won national and international recognition, and has been acclaimed as a highly creative blend of tradition and modernism.

Several award – winning feature and short films like ‘Bhuvan Shome’, ‘Through the Eyes of a Paineter’, etc. contain his music – of a totally new genre. He has traveled abroad widely on concert tours and lecture demonstrations, and today commands world-wide recognition as a great exponent and interpreter of Indian music.

A film on his creative eminence has been made by James Beveridge, the well-known Canadian film make. He was awarded the honor of Padma Shri in 1970 and the title of Sangeet Kala Shiromani in 1974, and the Sangeet Natak Akadami (A.P.) conferred on him the prestigious Gana Kala Prapoorna title in 1977.
