Over a period of twenty years Dickens wrote fifteen novels, five novellas and hundreds of short stories. He campaigned vigorously for children’s rights, education and other social reforms. Dickens is relevant even today. The human story has hardly changed. We may have tablet and smartphones now but people are still working on miserable wages as they manufacture goods. Exploitation of child labourers is still a reality in some countries. The bleak times represented in his works are just as relevant in today’s world. We still live in Dickensian times.
