This is a special type of book. It is based on a discussion in a learned assembly in the U.S. on the Gita as related to an ethics for a nuclear policy.
In 1987 a colloquium was held at the University of Chicago on 'Nuclear Policy, Culture and History', in which one session was devoted to the theme "An ethics for nuclear policy: The Bhagavad Gita or Gandhian non-violence, or the middle way?" The present book is a critique of the discussion in that session. In this book the author uses the discussion in the colloquium as the basis on which to present his views and responses as a representative Indian. In the process he gives an exhaustive treatment of the Gita and the Mahabharata in the context of the human problems of war and peace, individual as well as social, that beset even the modern age.
