It is rather quite embarrassing for me to write for my own album, the fourth one, being released by The Gramophone Company of India Limited. But since the cutting of this particular disc has been with a different purpose altogether, I feel I should express my mind to my dear listeners.

The first and the foremost consideration for my selection of Ragas for this LP has been the trend of appreciation of the present-day audience. Earlier I had come out with my own choices but this time I thought about the preferences of my admirers and connoisseurs.

For the first side I have selected the morning Raga Lalit and in order to delineate its sombre and reposeful traits, I devoted practically half of the total duration to ‘Alap’ only. In view of limited playing time, the Vilambit Gat had to be skipped over and after Alap I swithed on to a composition in the same Raga in Khayal style set to Teentaal in Madhya Laya. Gradually I increased the speed and ended with the first Jhala.

On the second side I have rendered Raga Sahana to begin with and rounded up my recital with Pilu in Thumri style. Both the compositions are in Teental. Usually ‘Sahana is sung and not played on instruments due to its complicated structure. My preference has always been for ‘Gayaki Ang’ and so I thought an exposition of the Raga Sahana would suit my style.

Recently I had been to Canada, Czechoslovakia, Italy, France and Germany. To my great satisfaction I found foreign audience also equally appreciating my presentation of ‘Sahana’ and ‘Lalit’, not to speak of Pilu which is always hailed as the finale.

Lastly I should not forget to mention that Sri Anindo Chatterjee has inspired me with his apt and able accompaniment on Tabla.
