Pandit Balasaheb Poochhwale was the only son and disciple of late PanditRajabhaiyya Poochhwale, the doyen of Gwalior Gharana. He was also fortunate to receive personal training under Pandit Sadashivrao Agnihotri, Pandit V. N. Bhatkhade and Acharya S. N.Ratanjankar. Besides Khayal, Balasaheb proficient in other forms like Tappa, Tarana and Ashtalpidi. His rendition bears the hallmark of the distinctive features of Gwalior Gharana Gayaki, characterized by contemporary stylistic nuances and maintaining the innate aesthetic appeal which has marked him out as one of the reigning exponents of the Gwalior Gayaki. He had graced the position as Principal of the Madhav Sangeet Mahavidyalaya for number of years. He was conferred upon several Awards including 'Sangeet Natak Academy' for his generous contribution' to Indian Music.
