Herbert George `H.G,’ Wells was an English writer, best known today for his exemplary work in the science fiction genre - so much so, that he is often referred to as `The Father of Science Fiction’. Though a pacifist at heart, Wells was hugely pessimistic about the future of the human race and prophesied several disasters such as the World Wars, robotics, aerial bombing and nuclear power. Wells also wrote about socio - political issues of the day. he explored in lives of ordinary men and women by placing them in extraordinary situations in his writings, weaving fantastic tales with edge and humour. Some of his best short stories are compiled in this collection, such as The Country of the blind, The Red Room, The Stolen Body and A Vision of judgement.
