Description

I am delighted to go through the book titled Ten Gurus of the Sikhs: Their Life Story originally written in Marathi by Smt. Kusum Ghatage and translated into English by Smt. Pramila ad GP.Capt.M.V.Naniwadekar. The book makes enlightening reading bringing out in biographical details the message and spiritual contributions of the Ten Gurus of the Sikhs. The word Sikh is derived from sishya which means the learner or disciple. The ambition of Shri Guru nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, was to create a society of people which could combat all worldly challenges that divide man from man and deprive the innocent and weaker sections of the people from getting their rightful place in the society. Sikhism today is more than 500 years old. Shri Guru Nanak combined the finest principles of various Faiths to create a new Society. It is closely related to the path of Bakti. It believes in One God and the Unity of mankind without any distinction of caste, creed, colour, gender or geographical boundaries. It rejects meaningless rituals and believes in the sanctity of Sangat (congregation) and living in the family. Every individual is morally obliged to work for earning ones livelihood. Sikhism stands for discipline, freedom, love, compassion, charity and well being of all. Ours is a multi religious and multi cultural society. The author has rightly stressed by highlighting the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
