He served for a long time as the court musician of Sir Sayaji Rao Gaekwad, the maharaja of Baroda.Maharaja Mysore awarded him the title ' Aftab-E-Mausiqui' Faiyaz Khan's specialities were Dhrupad and Khayal, but was also capable of singing Thumri and Ghazals.
