Manjusha Kulkarni – A young singer with a great promise : that's how one could describe thisyouthful girl from Sangli, the Southern part of Maharashtra. A tuneful, forceful and seasoned voice, confidence and systematic presentation ofa Raga structure mark her performances. She has been trained initially by Pt. Chintubuwa Mhaiskar from Sangli and later by Sangeetacharya D. V. Kane from Ichalkaranji. Pt. Kane was the erstwhile disciple of Ustad ✓ilayat Hussein Khan of Agra Gharana and Pt. Mirashibuwa of the Gwalior gharana. Manjusha was Musically brought up by Kanebuwa in the ‘gurukull tradition. Her singing clearly indicates the exacting influence of a rigorous 'taleem' (training). Amidst the young vocalists, she definitely stands apart. At present, she is undergoing traing by Mrs.Shubhada Paradkar. Manjusha has won a Gold Medal for her excellence in semi-classical genres, from the All India Radio as well. She is well-known for her Marathi stage-songs. She secured the First Rank in M. A. (Music), from Shivaji University and has several awards to her credit. Her performances in several musical conferences have been acclaimed by critics. Kalyan Deshpande, who has provided Tabla accompaniment is the disciple of Pandit Ganapatrao Davri who received training from Ustad Muneer Khan Saheb of Delhi Gharana and Ustad Jahangir Khan of Purab Gharana. Kalyan is currently receiving guidance from Ustad Nizamuddin Khan as well. Shriram Hasabnis, the harmonium accompanist has received guidance from late Pt. D V. Kane and currently studying music with Manjusha Kulkarni herself. He is also learning Sarangii from Pt. Madhukar Khadikar.
