Seventeen stories have been selected from the book 'Peer Parayi'. They show the nobility of giving service to suffering fellow beings and the futility of attachment to worldly possessions. There are unsung heroes of all religions who serve humanity and do yeoman service. 'Manav seva Madhav seva' is the basic theme of these real life stories. In one of the stories, an old man plants five saplings and waters them everyday In summer when the river dries up he ventures into a doctor's house for water and says that he planted these trees where there was nothing, in memory of his son who died. He could not afford building any big institution, hence he planted these trees in the hope that when they grew up, they would give shelter to man and animal and protect life. 'The mansion within' tells of a man who built a lovely house and went to invite a swamiji to come and bless it. There he listens to Swamiji's discourses on renunciation and God, and builds a mansion in his heart for God.
